A lot has changed since the pandemic struck the world. The whole lifestyle of people all around the globe has transformed. The habits have changed, the behavioural pattern has gone completely awry. None of the plans of anyone seem to have worked since the year 2020 the way people thought would go. The one thing this whole chaos has made it clear is that things are going to be highly dynamic and volatile now and no matter how much we would want things to be this way, the new ways of the world is going to stay this way.
This whole new world has made many a things obsolete and one thing which I have learned personally is that none of the plans are going to work the way they are thought about in advance. The ever-changing scenarios now warrant people to be more spontaneous, and approach things with something like a ‘Just In Time’ approach because for all we know, a trip planned a month ago might not be feasible to take today due to let’s say, new travel guidelines enforced.
Before I move any further with my thoughts, I would like to put a disclaimer here that I am not promoting the habit of procrastinating as it is, at least in our Indian society, is seen as a big taboo, mainly among the Indian parents who like everything planned to the ‘T’ decades ahead of the due date. But, it will be hard to deny the fact that way plans are failing for everyone ‘left right and centre’, it may as well be benefit to not plan things way too early in time and rather observe situation until close to the D-day and act as per the current prevailing situation.
Staying Relevant:
The pace at which the world is changing everyday is alarming and its very important to keep up with the pace and keep ourselves relevant to today. One risk we run by planning way too early is that our ideas, plans, visions may get obsolete by the time the moment of truth arrives. As opposed to this, planning until the last moment keeps things valid and more relevant to the current situation which saves us precious time in tweaking or completely changing the plans we might have made.
Learning Just the Right Amount:
Its always good to learn new things. Learning new things is what keeps us valid in this world. Learning is how people grow in life and in career. However, the world today needs us to learn just the right amount now the specifications of our jobs, our lives have changed so dramatically. When we start in a new learning journey, what we tend to do is we try to soak up as much as we can given we have the time to do so. Instead, what we need today is to learn only the things which are important for the job we opt for, and that happens only if we give ourselves just the right amount of time to prepare for it rather than soaking up everything which comes our way and go clueless when time comes to act.
Working Smart:
It is said that hard work pays off and there is no denying to that but in today’s dynamics, people are expected to work smart than working hard, slogging ourselves day in-day out. If this pandemic has taught all of us one thing well, it is to care for our health first and the value of having and caring for our family. In the pre-COVID era, people used to neglect their health, their family and work really hard in their jobs and assignments. But, with this new way of life, the mindsets have transformed and people have started taking care of themselves and their families, we have started investing more time on ourselves and the ones we love and value and this, warrants us to work smart by utilising time optimally and delivering better results rather than spending all the time we have on one thing.
What I intend to highlight here is that procrastination makes us think of new ways of getting our work done in lesser amount of time and be creative finding out new ways and shortcuts to complete the the task in hand.
Taking it Personally:
I have been a procrastinator my whole life and I can confidently say that it has worked really well for me until now. I used to study right before my examinations, complete my homework just the day before submission, observe and assess my options right until close to my project deadlines so that I can make a more relevant and better decision to make it successful, plan my travel in the nick of time which negates any possibility for the plan getting cancelled. This blog itself is finally being created after a lot of procrastination and delays but as we say, “better late than never”, I finally took an informed decision to experiment with my writing skills after thoroughly evaluating all my options and learning about starting a blogging site. However, only time will tell if the result of the procrastinated decision this time will be good or will take to the bin.
Disclaimer:
This article is about my thoughts only and not written to influence anyone to be a procrastinator. One should always evaluate the situation first and take an approach to act accordingly.
